Michael Chewas born in Manhattan and was raised in the Lower East Side of the city.He would graduate from the Fiorello J. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts. He worked for two years as a customer service agent for a Toyota dealership, and he also created artwork and sold it in SoHo. He was once offered a design position with Tommy Hilfiger, but he never submitted his designs.
As a stand-up comedian, Che started with stand-up in 2009. He would perform several sets per night, even featuring on the Late Show with David Letterman. He would also be named one of the comics to watch by Variety, and he was named one of the “50 Funniest People” by Rolling Stone. Michael would first join SNL as a writer in 2013, but then he would become a correspondent of The Daily Show.
When the position opened up for Weekend Update co-anchor in 2014, he would join SNL once more as a regular cast member alongside Colin Jost. He would be the first African-American co-anchor for the Weekend Update in history. He would be promoted to the main cast during his third season, and he is also the co-head writer for Saturday Night Live now.
