Joe Montana is an American former professional football player who played quarterback for sixteen seasons in the NFL. He would gain the nickname, “Joe Cool” or “The Comeback Kid” and spend much of his career playing for the San Francisco 49ers. He has numerous accolades including making the 1980s All-Decade Team for the NFL, being named NFL MVP two years in a row, and earning the Bert Bell Award in 1989. He also has been entered into the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame, and his jersey, number 16, retired within the team.
Before his professional career, Montana was born in New Eagle, Pennsylvania and he would grow up just south of Pittsburgh. He would begin playing football as a teenager, earning the role of starter as a junior and senior. He would attend Notre Dame for college, and he would finish his season as a fifth-yearsenior but assisted the team to make it all the way to the Cotton Bowl, winning against Houston. He would graduate with a degree in business administration, and he would immediately be selected in the 1979 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
Joe Montana would play for the 49ers from 1979 until 1992, when he would be traded to Kansas City. Most of the seasons he played, he would end up in the playoffs with his team. He would also compete in the XVI, XIX, XXIII, and XXIV Superbowl, winning all four times that his teams made it to the finals.
