Colin Kaepernick is an American civil rights activist and former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He played for the team for six seasons. He would become most famous for his public display of kneeling during the national anthem in 2016, protesting police brutality and racial inequality. He was named Offensive Player of the Year by the WAC in 2009 and 2010. He also has the NFL record for most rushing years by a quarterback in a single game and a single postseason.
As a young football player, he would grow up in the Milwaukee area until he was four before moving to California. He would be a 4.0 GPA student and play football, basketball, and baseball. For football, he was chosen to attend the University of Nevada, Reno, the only school that offered him a football scholarship. Colin Kaepernick would also participate in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft and get selected in the 43rd round by the Chicago Cubs. However, he would not join the team and keep playing at the University of Nevada, Reno.
In 2011, Kaepernick would earn his chance to be drafted in the 13th pick in the 2nd round to join the 49ers. From there, he would make himself a lengthy reputation as a strong quarterback. Aside from sports, he is also highly active in activism, showing his support for civil rights and the Black Lives Matter movement.
