UCLA All-American and NFL standout DeShaun Foster was named head coach at his alma mater on Feb. 12, 2024. Foster spent the previous 11 seasons, including 10 at UCLA, in the collegiate coaching ranks. He also coached one year at Texas Tech. Foster spent the 2017-2023 campaigns as the Bruins' running backs coach, adding the title of associate head coach in 2023.
Before getting into coaching, Foster had an extensive playing career at both the NCAA and NFL level. Foster attended UCLA and is one of the most accomplished running backs in school history. He completed his career second on the all-time touchdowns scored list (44), third on the school’s all-time rushing list (3,194 yds), and fifth on the all-time Bruin scoring list (266 pts).
Foster was selected by Carolina in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played with the Panthers from 2003-2007. He made two memorable scoring runs for Carolina in the 2004 NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles and in Super Bowl XXXVIII versus the New England Patriots. Foster played the 2008 season for the San Francisco 49ers.
He is married to Charity Foster and has two sons, Noel Washington (14) and Nolen Washington (12), and daughters Viviana Foster (8) and Destiny Foster (6 months).
