Kodi Lee is a Korean American singer and songwriter and pianist. He rose to fame initially after participating in winning the fourteenth season of the TV show, America’s Got Talent. He was born in 1996 and would perform on the TV show only at the age of 23, earning more than 50 million views on the Internet for his audition performance. Early on in his life, he was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, which means he is legally blind. He also was diagnosed with autism from an early age and has Addison's disease. As a prodigious musical savant, he manifested these musical abilities.
On the TV show, he would perform and sing Leon Russell’s “A Song for You”. All four of the judges, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough, and Simon Cowell, and gave him a standing ovation at the very end of his performance. Gabrielle Union gave him a golden buzzer, sending him straight through to the live shows as well. He would perform in the quarterfinals as well as in the semifinals, and during the results, he was announced as one of the 10 finalists for the season. In the finals, he would choose to perform this song, “Lost Without You” by Freya Ridings. The finale would air in September of 2019, and he would be announced the winner having received the most votes. He is the first autistic and developmentally disabled person to win this TV show.
For its performances on the TV show, Simon Cowell has ranked him as his favorite top 15 golden buzzer moments, placing him at #3. In August of 2022,Kodi Lee performed a duet, “Don’t Stop Believin’” with Teddy Swims along with the guitarist, Neal Schon, who was the founder of the band Journey, during the AGT Qualifiers 3 Results episode.
