Notre Dame’s former head coach for 11 years and LSU’s current head coach, Brian Kelly, has been praised by LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward as "the epitome of a winner." Starting out as a linebacker on the club football team at Assumption College in 1979, Kelly’s football career has spanned over 40 years, with coaching roles at Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and now LSU.
During his time at Notre Dame, Kelly was named Big East Coach of the Year three times, Home Depot Coach of the Year three times (as selected by ESPN and ABC), and ACC Coach of the Year in 2020. He ended his tenure with an outstanding 92-39 record, becoming the winningest coach in Notre Dame history. Kelly made the decision to head to LSU due to its "commitment to excellence, rich traditions, and unrivaled pride and passion." He is highly regarded as one of the most consistent coaches in football history.
Kelly is married to his wife, Paqui, and the couple has three children. After Paqui faced two battles with different types of cancer, the couple founded the Kelly Cares Foundation in 2007, donating over $5 million to organizations supporting health, education, and community needs. In his free time, Kelly enjoys sharing his love of football with his children and golfing, while also exploring opportunities for public speaking.
