Eberflus’ football career sparked as a four-year letterman and a three-year starting linebacker at Toledo from 1988 to 1991. While playing in college, he earned First Team All-MAC honors as a junior and again as a senior, led the team in tackles both years, and was later inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. Former Rockets coach Dan Simrell called Eberflus "as intense of a player as I've ever coached. He made himself great." Eberflus has undoubtedly carried this same passion and persistence with him throughout his NFL coaching career.
With 29 years of coaching experience, Eberflus is a committed, consistent, and reliable leader for players to turn to on and off the field. Prior to joining the Bears, he spent four seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, seven seasons as the linebackers coach and passing game coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, and two seasons as the linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns. Before entering the NFL coaching realm, he coached at Toledo for nine seasons before moving to the University of Missouri, where he was the defensive coordinator from 2001 to 2008.
