Alex Morgan is an American professional soccer player who plays as a striker. She is also the captain for the San Diego Wave FC and plays within the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). She has also been a member of the United States women’s national soccer team. She was co-captain with Carli Lloyd and Megan Rapinoe from 2018 until 2020. However, her soccer career would begin long before she would play for the US Women’s Soccer Team.
Prior to her entrance into the world of professional soccer, she would grow up playing soccer with the AYSO in the Los Angeles area. She would start the sport at the age of 14 and continue her training. She was known for her speed and her sprinting ability, which would allow her to play for the Olympic Development Program at both regional and state levels. Morgan felt that this was an important part of what would eventually earn her the opportunity to play for the under-20 women’s national soccer team for America.
Following her high school education, Alex Morgan attended UC Berkeley, where she would play for the California Golden Bears from 2007 until 2010. She would become one of the first California Golden Bear players to be a candidate for the Hermann Trophy during her junior year. After college, she was the number one draft pick for the 2011 WPS Draft, selected by the Western New York Flash. She would go onto become the youngest player on the national team for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and she would also play in the 2012 London Olympics, joining Mia Hamm. Other than her soccer career, she’s also the writer of the middle-grade book, The Kicks, which was on The New York Times bestseller list in 2013.
