Lance Armstrong is an American cyclist who is famous for competing in the Tour de France, but his career and his life now go much beyond these events. Born in Texas, he would develop a love for athletics at an early age.At the age of sixteen, he would become a triathlete and begin his professional cycling career with the Motorola team in 1992. After this, he would begin to compete on the global level in the World Championships and more.
In 1996, after competing in the Tour de France and other contests, he would discover he had testicular cancer. He has since recovered and created the Livestrong Foundation to help provide support for other cancer survivors. He would return to cycling, but after several consecutive wins, he would be investigated for doping and found guilty, stripping him of all his winning titles for the Tour de France. As such, he would begin more work in business pursuits and charity following this event.
Lance Armstrong has invested in numerous business projects. He owns a coffee shop downtown Austin, Texas, called “Juan Pelota Café”. He also helped to launch the non-profit, Wonders & Worries. He also invested $100,000 into Uber in 2009, but now it is worth much more than the initial investment. Armstrong currently also has a podcast, called “The Move”, that chronicles the events of the Tour de France. Several films have been made about him, including the most recently released documentary, Lance, who tells the story of his life.
