Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who, launched a solo career in 1973 as the band struggled post-Quadrophenia. Born in London on March 1, 1944, he grew up with future bandmates Pete Townshend and John Entwistle, emerging as one of rock’s most commanding vocalists. His solo debut, Daltrey (1973), featured songs by Leo Sayer. He balanced acting with music, starring in Tommy (1975) and McVicar (1980). Continuing solo work after The Who’s 1983 breakup, he later co-founded Teenage Cancer Trust. His 2018 album, As Long as I Have You, featured Townshend on guitar.
