Kyle Mooney was born and raised in San Diego, California.He would study film at the University of Southern California, performing improv and sketches with the comedy group Commedus Interruptus. Over the years, Mooney has collected VHS tapes, and he has shown a love and appreciation for classic movies, like Beetlejuice.
In 2007, Mooney would work with other fellow cast members Bennett and Rutherford to create Good Neighbor, a new comedy group. This would allow them to gain attention, which would eventually allow them to join the cast of SNL in 2013. He would be a featured player during the 40th season before being promoted to repertory status in the next season. He would bring his characters from his YouTube to SNL, including the person-on-the-street interviews, the "4/20 weed-smoking guy," and others.
Throughout his SNL career, he has been known for playing roles and impersonating individuals like Fred Astaire, David Axelrod, Jeff Bezos, John Kennedy, Rand Paul, Axl Rose, Skrillex, Stephen Stills, and Steven Tyler. Mooney has also been in several films, including Zoolander 2, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
