David Zaslav is an American media executive who serves as the CEO and the President of Warner Bros. Discovery. He’s been an influential part of media for many years and he’s part of the reason that many of the most famous deals in TV history happened. This includes the transaction between AT&T, Discovery, and the combination of both to create the new company. He was the previous leader of Discovery, Inc., but he would ultimately help to merge the companies and this would shift his position in the industry.
From a young age, he was involved in the business world. He would enter into a bachelor of science program and study at Binghamton University before he would pursue his law degree. Zaslav would eventually attend the Boston University School of Law and earn his JD with honors, thus, beginning his career as a lawyer with LeBoeuf, Lamb, Lieby, and MacRae in the city of New York. Following this move, he would join NBC in 1898. He would become the president of Cable and Domestic TV and New Media Distributioon, but this would also give him the experience needed to reach his current position.
After more than two decades with NBC, David would enter into the Discovery Communications as their new CEO in 2006. He would succeed Judith McHale and shift their strategy, focusing on content rather than just cable, as they wanted to compete with their market. They would help to launch Planet Green, The Hub, Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), and Investigation Discovery. He would also allow the company to become publicly traded for the first time in history in 2008. Other than his work with Warner Bros. Discovery, he also has served on the boards of Sirius XM, The NCTA, Cable Center, Partnership for New York City, Syracuse University, and more.
