Colin Jost was born and raised on Staten Island.Raised Roman Catholic, Jost would become involved in writing early in his life, writing for the school newspaper and later attending Harvard University for history and literature. He was the president of the Harvard Lampoon, where many future comedians would write. He also won $5,250 for a college edition of the Weakest Link.
After Harvard, Jost would work for Staten Island Advance as a reporter and copy editor. After that, he worked as a writer for Kappa Mikey before being hired by Saturday Night Live in 2005. He has served as the writing supervisor, co-head writer, and also co-anchor for the Weekend Update. His influences for comedy and writing come from Norm Macdonald and Tina Fey, who worked for SNL themselves over the years.
Other than his work on SNL, Jost has also done numerous comedy shows for people around the country. He also wrote the screenplay and played a small role in Staten Island Summer, released in 2015. He also was in a minor role in How to Be Single (2016). In addition, Jost has published his memoir, A Very Punchable Face: A Memoir which was featured on the New York Times Bestseller List.
