Chicago, initially known as the Big Thing, emerged in 1967 with a politically engaged and artistically progressive approach. Renamed Chicago Transit Authority, they released a debut album in 1969, featuring a political epic and hits like "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" After shortening their name due to CTA, the band explored diverse genres across subsequent multi-disc albums. With platinum success and a distinctive logo, Chicago's trajectory shifted with ballads like Peter Cetera's "If You Leave Me Now" and "Baby, What a Big Surprise." The tragic 1978 incident involving Terry Kath led to a conservative pivot, emphasizing power ballads. Singer/songwriter Bill Champlin and producer David Foster's inclusion in the '80s marked a shift, culminating in the soft-rock archetype "You’re the Inspiration." Despite Cetera's 1985 departure, Chicago, now with four original members, continued to tour and record, amassing a vast discography exceeding three dozen releases, including popular Christmas albums.
