Her first two albums were coproduced by pianist Barry Manilow, whom she met while performing at a New York City bath house.
In 1974, Midler won the Best New Artist Grammy Award and took home Best Female Pop Vocal Performance honors for “The Rose,” from her 1979 movie of the same name.
Recorded for her hit film Beaches, Midler’s version on the 1982 song “Wind Beneath My Wings” hit No. 1 and won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
She costarred in the 1993 cult classic Hocus Pocus and resurrected her witch character, Winifred, on a 2015 tour, performing “I Put a Spell on You.”
A decorated actress, Midler has won four Golden Globe Awards, three Emmys, and one Tony Award, the last one for her starring role in the 2017 Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!.
