Anita Hill is an American lawyer, scholar, and educator, as well as author. She is a university professor of social policy and law at Brandeis University. She is also a faculty member at Heller School for Social Policy and Management. In 1991, she became a national figure when she accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment. Before her entrance into national news, she earned her degree in psychology from Oklahoma State University and went to Yale Law School, where she earned her law degree.
Hill began her law career in D.C. after taking the Bar exam in 1980. She would work with Wald, Harkrader, and Ross as an associate. After that, she became the attorney-advisor to Clarence Thomas, the Office of Civil Rights assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Education. Hill would also become his assistant during Thomas's position as the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission chairman from 1982 until 1983.
Since her work with Clarence Thomas, Anita Hill would become the assistant professor at Oral Roberts University until 1986. She would also work at the University of Oklahoma College of Law and was the first African-American professor to be tenured. She left in 1996 due to the calls for her resignation after she testified in 1992 against Clarence Thomas. After this point, she continued to advocate for others like her around the country, writing several books and speaking.
