Andy Jassy is an American business executive who has been the president and CEO of Amazon since 2021 when Jeff Bezos stepped down. He was also the senior vice president and CEO of Amazon Web Services, previously serving from 2003 until 2021. He was personally selected by Jeff Bezos himself to run the company. Growing up in New York City, he would attend Harvard College and study there for his undergraduate and his graduate, earning his MBA from the institution.
Prior to entering his MBA program, Jassy would work for five years in the industry. He would work with MBI, and he would then join Amazon as a marketing manager in 1997. He would be amongst several other Harvard classmates of his from his own MBA program. He would also come up with the idea with Jeff Bezos to create cloud computing, which would later become titled as Amazon Web Services. It would launch three years after the pair had created the idea.
In 2016, he was named the Person of the Year by the Financial Times. He was then promoted to senior vice president, then to CEO of Amazon Web Services. He would earn a staggering $36.6 million that year. In his personal life, he married Elana Rochelle Caplan, a fashion designer for Eddie Bauer. They live in Seattle, and Jassy is also the chairman of Rainier Prep, a charter school in Seattle.
