Aaron Neville is a retired American R&B and soul singer, with four platinum albums and four top ten hits in the United States. He has three songs that have hit #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, and his single, “Tell It Like It Is”, from 1966 which reached the top position for more than five weeks. Music is in his genes, as he has recorded with numerous members of his family including his brothers Art, Charles, Cyril, and even his father Ivan Neville. As an individual with mixed African American, Caucasian, and Choctaw heritage, he is not only a renowned singer, but also a major influence of diversity in music.
Throughout his career, he has been active since the 1960s. Aaron Neville first began performing with a small New Orleans label, Par-Lo. He would sell over 1 million copies of his song “Tell It Like It Is” along with numerous other singles at the early start of his career. His first solo album since the late 1960s would be in 1986 titled Orchid in The Storm. He would also team up with Linda Ronstadt to create the album,Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind. Over the years, he would continue to make significant influences in the music industry through his singles and his albums, and even his collaborations.
More recently, Aaron Neville was affected significantly by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He would relocate to Memphis and then eventually to Nashville. His work has been highly regarded by numerous stars in the industry including Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, and more. His career has even included work for TV, movies, and sporting events, with him performing the national anthem at numerous sporting events, and even incorporating content into various TV shows. Some of his most recent appearances have been through charity work and being featured artists at certain events over the years, but he formally retired from touring in 2021 at the age of 80.
