Tokimonsta is an American record producer, DJ, and musician based in Los Angeles. She first began in the industry in 2008, when she would begin to work with multiple musicians and attend the Red Bull Music Academy in London in 2010. She graduated from the University of California in Irvine, and she would begin to further her own musical talents, after growing up with classical piano lessons and being more interested in producing music in the future.
Following her experience in London, she would be named one of the hottest DJs in the industry in 2010.Tokimonsta’s first album, Midnight Menu, would be released in 2010 on Brainfeeder. Her second album, Creature Dreams, would be an additional EP that she would help to release in 2011. Her stage name, Tokimonsta, comes from the Korean translation of tokki, meaning “rabbit”. She would take this name from a Korean children’s song, “San Toki”.
In her personal life, she was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease in late 2015. Despite undergoing two brain surgeries and briefly losing her language and comprehension skills, she would eventually begin to work in 2017, but she had difficulty fully understanding the music and when she was able to create. She noted that it was one of her most personal albums that she's created thus far due to her experiences and difficulties with trying to complete the album. However, Tokimonsta would make a recovery and release another album in 2020 and continue to make more remixes to share with the world. Today, she continues to make music, and is seen as a significant comeback story for the world of music.
